Timber Frame Elements
Parametric Modeling Using a Custom Plugin
As part of our engineering process, we use a custom plugin we refer to as the “timber frame plugin.” This plugin was developed in collaboration with Tekniq Solutions. Thanks to this partnership, we are able to tailor the tool precisely to our workflow and requirements, and new features can be implemented quickly and efficiently.
A key component of the plugin is parametric modeling. This means that objects are built based on parameters and design rules, rather than through manual modifications. Examples include dimensions, material selections, or placement rules. By adjusting these parameters, elements can be automatically generated or modified without needing to rebuild the entire model. This enables us to:
Easily implement last-minute changes,
Quickly and accurately generate design variants,
Prevent modeling errors by applying design rules,
And model complex details down to the finest level.
With the plugin, we can model every component in 3D with precision. This includes not only the primary structure, but also elements like window and door openings, tapes, membranes and insulation, lifting points, anchors, and even electrical components. Such a detailed model provides a clear and comprehensive representation of the final product—especially crucial in more complex projects to ensure feasibility during execution.
One of the key advantages of the plugin is its direct link to production. For each panel, nailing lines are automatically generated, including information on nail types and spacing. This data is directly used to create the corresponding machine files. As a result, the production process is significantly accelerated and the risk of errors in translating the design to fabrication is minimized.
Additionally, the plugin allows different variants to be saved and reused easily. This improves consistency, saves valuable time, and contributes to an efficient and reliable workflow.
