Care close by
On Horsterweg in Zeewolde stands the new ‘Medical Center Waterland.’ Under the motto ‘Sint Jansdal brings care close by,’ residents of Zeewolde have been able to visit the new Medical Center Waterland since 2021.
In the center, various services such as general practitioners, physiotherapy, mental health care, and a pharmacy are conveniently located together.
Harmonizing with its surroundings
The building features a corner facade where the materials used reflect the name of Zeewolde. The wooded area (wolde) is depicted with a wooden facade. The bottom layer is made of dark stone, both in height and shade, representing the water level.
Next, gray concrete blocks symbolize the polder sky. Due to the varied and specific program requirements, the windows are positioned in a fixed pattern. At the front, a large panoramic window overlooks the harbor.
On the entrance side, the block is closed off at the left with low windows, allowing those in the physiotherapy area to have a connection with the outdoors.
The backside has a light facade with bands that harmonize with the tones of the buildings adjacent to the rear terrain.
The opening took place on Thursday afternoon, November 4, with Mayor Gerrit Jan Gorter doing the honors.
After brief speeches and words of thanks from him and others involved, he unveiled a plaque in the hall of the brand-new building, officially marking the opening.

The healthcare center serves as a corner closure of a mega block at the entrance of Zeewolde.
